Where most couples start

Marriage help for Fort Collins couples, without the drive.

The short answer: Tim Shetter, M.S., works with couples in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado entirely online. You meet together by secure video from home. Every couple begins with a Marriage Review, where you both complete an assessment and leave with a clear plan for what to work on first.

Most couples who reach out are not in a dramatic crisis. They are tired. The same argument shows up every few weeks wearing different clothes. Someone has started keeping score. The two of you are running a household well and drifting as a couple, and you can both feel it even if neither of you has said it out loud.

A lot of the couples I work with live in Fort Collins and the towns around it. You do not need an office down the road to do this work. You need a plan, a coach who will not take sides, and an hour where the two of you are actually paying attention to the “We.”

In their words

What clients say.

“Thank you so much for your coaching and guidance. We’re doing well, and our relationship is much deeper and stronger because of our sessions with you… Tim, you made a huge difference in our lives. Words don’t come close to expressing our love and gratitude. And you know how good we do at communicating - LOL!!!”

What we work on

The things couples actually bring to me

The same fight, again

The topic changes. The pattern underneath does not. We find the pattern.

Feeling like roommates

The logistics run fine. The connection has gone quiet. We bring it back on purpose.

Rebuilding trust

After an affair or a long string of broken promises, trust gets rebuilt one kept word at a time.

Intimacy that has faded

Emotional and physical closeness, talked about honestly and without blame.

Communication that lands

Saying the hard thing so your partner can hear it, and hearing it when it is said to you.

Big transitions

New baby, new job, an empty nest, a move. Seasons that test the team.

Why online works

Same coaching. None of the logistics.

I moved my practice online on purpose, before the pandemic made it normal. Couples are often surprised by how personal it feels. You are in your own space, I can see and hear both of you clearly, and we can meet after the kids are asleep.

For Fort Collins couples that means no fighting College Avenue traffic after work, no waiting room, no babysitter, and no canceling because the roads are bad in January.

  • Meet from home, on a secure video call
  • No commute, no waiting room, no childcare to arrange
  • Works when one of you travels for work
  • Both of you are heard. Nobody gets ganged up on.

How it starts

Three steps, and you always know the next one.

Who you'll work with

I’m Tim Shetter.

Growth Strategist, Relationship Coach, and Marriage Counselor with more than 18 years of experience helping individuals and couples.

My training is in Marriage and Family Therapy, and my focus has always been the marriage itself. In my work there are three clients in the room: each of you, and the “We.” I will not make one of you the villain. We look at what is happening between you and build from there.

Remember the reasons you chose each other in the first place. Those reasons are not gone. A strong marriage draws on the connection that brought you together, and is built from there one brick at a time.

Questions

Marriage counseling in Fort Collins: common questions

Do you offer in-person marriage counseling in Fort Collins?

No. All of my sessions are online by secure video. Many of the couples I work with live in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado, and they meet with me from home. You get the same coaching without the drive, the waiting room or the babysitter.

Does online marriage coaching really work?

Couples are often surprised by how personal it feels. You are in your own space, I can see and hear both of you clearly, and we can meet at times an office could never offer. What makes coaching work is both of you showing up and doing the work. The screen does not change that.

Do you work with couples in Loveland, Windsor, Timnath or Wellington?

Yes. Because everything is online, I work with couples across Northern Colorado, including Loveland, Windsor, Timnath, Wellington, Laporte, Berthoud and Greeley.

Is this marriage counseling or marriage coaching?

It is marriage coaching. My training is in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I bring that background to the work, but what I offer is coaching focused on the two of you and your marriage. It is not a substitute for therapy for an individual mental health condition.

How do we get started, and what does it cost?

Every couple starts with a Marriage Review. You both complete an assessment, we meet for one session, and you leave with a clear plan for what to work on first. You can see the details and book on the Marriage Review page.

What if my spouse is not sure about coaching?

That is common, and it is not a reason to wait. Start with the short video on the Start Here page and watch it together. Many hesitant partners relax once they see that I do not take sides. The marriage is the client, not either one of you.
