Where most couples start
For Scottsdale couples who are good at everything except slowing down.
The short answer: Scottsdale couples work with Tim Shetter, M.S., online by secure video, from home or wherever the week takes you. Sessions are private and there is no office or waiting room. Every couple starts with a Marriage Review: an assessment for each of you, one session, and a clear plan for what to work on first.
Many of the couples I work with in Scottsdale are high performers. Business owners, executives, physicians, people who travel. You know how to set a goal and hit it. At work you are decisive and clear. At home, the conversations that matter most keep getting pushed to next week, and the two of you have quietly become very efficient co-managers of a busy life.
That is not a character flaw. It is what happens when two capable people pour everything into what is urgent. The marriage is usually the thing that waits. My work is to give the “We” the same intention you give everything else, with a clear plan and a coach who will not take sides.
In their words
What clients say.
“Thank you so much for your coaching and guidance. We’re doing well, and our relationship is much deeper and stronger because of our sessions with you… Tim, you made a huge difference in our lives. Words don’t come close to expressing our love and gratitude. And you know how good we do at communicating - LOL!!!”
Client
“Tim, you are the only one that got me to open up about myself. Thank you for that… it has helped to this day to be a better Husband, Father and Brother. You are in the right career… To help others!”
Husband, Father
“I met Tim during the most difficult time of my life, and his guidance and mentorship helped me to develop the skills I needed to survive and grow… Tim is exceptionally gifted working with people. I would encourage any man, at any age, and at any stage of life to reach out to Tim and see what he can do for you.”

The things couples actually bring to me
The same fight, again
The topic changes. The pattern underneath does not. We find the pattern.
Feeling like roommates
The logistics run fine. The connection has gone quiet. We bring it back on purpose.
Rebuilding trust
After an affair or a long string of broken promises, trust gets rebuilt one kept word at a time.
Intimacy that has faded
Emotional and physical closeness, talked about honestly and without blame.
Communication that lands
Saying the hard thing so your partner can hear it, and hearing it when it is said to you.
Success and its side effects
A new role, a business sale, a relocation, long seasons apart. Growth changes a marriage too.
Why online works
Same coaching. None of the logistics.
I moved my practice online on purpose, before the pandemic made it normal. Couples are often surprised by how personal it feels. You are in your own space, I can see and hear both of you clearly, and we can meet after the kids are asleep.
For Scottsdale couples that means no crossing town at rush hour, no being seen in a waiting room, and no losing momentum when one of you is traveling or away for the summer.
- Meet from home, on a secure video call
- No commute, no waiting room, no childcare to arrange
- Join from home, the office or the road
- Both of you are heard. Nobody gets ganged up on.
How it starts
Three steps, and you always know the next one.

Who you'll work with
I’m Tim Shetter.
Growth Strategist, Relationship Coach, and Marriage Counselor with more than 18 years of experience helping individuals and couples.
My training is in Marriage and Family Therapy, and my focus has always been the marriage itself. In my work there are three clients in the room: each of you, and the “We.” I will not make one of you the villain. We look at what is happening between you and build from there.
Remember the reasons you chose each other in the first place. Those reasons are not gone. A strong marriage draws on the connection that brought you together, and is built from there one brick at a time.

Questions
Marriage counseling in Scottsdale: common questions
Do you offer in-person marriage counseling in Scottsdale?
No. Every session is online by secure video. Many of my clients live in Scottsdale and around the Valley and meet with me from home. You get focused marriage coaching without the drive across town or the waiting room.
Is online marriage coaching private?
Yes. Sessions are held on a secure video platform, and you join from a space you choose. There is no waiting room and no chance of running into a client, a colleague or a neighbor on the way in. For many Scottsdale couples, that privacy is one of the main reasons they choose to work online.
We both have demanding careers and one of us travels. Can this still work?
Yes, and it is one of the reasons I moved my practice online. We find a rhythm that fits both of your calendars, and if one of you is on the road, you can join from wherever you are. If one of you cannot make a session, we can reschedule or meet with the partner who is available so the work keeps moving.
Do you work with couples in Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills, Phoenix or the East Valley?
Yes. Because everything is online, I work with couples across the Phoenix metro, including Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills, Cave Creek, Carefree, Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert.
Is this marriage counseling or marriage coaching?
It is marriage coaching. My training is in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I bring that background to the work, but what I offer is coaching focused on the two of you and your marriage. It is not a substitute for therapy for an individual mental health condition.
How do we get started, and what does it cost?
Every couple starts with a Marriage Review. You both complete an assessment, we meet for one session, and you leave with a clear plan for what to work on first. You can see the details and book on the Marriage Review page.
