Where most couples start

Marriage coaching for Prescott couples, wherever you are on the mountain.

The short answer: Prescott-area couples work with Tim Shetter, M.S., entirely online, by secure video from home. There is no office to drive to. The first step for every couple is a Marriage Review: you each complete an assessment, meet with Tim for one session, and leave with a written plan for what to work on first.

A lot of the couples I hear from in Prescott have been married a long time. The kids are grown or nearly grown, the schedule finally has room in it, and the two of you are discovering that more time together does not automatically mean more closeness. Old patterns you could step around for years are suddenly right in the middle of the kitchen.

Others are earlier in the road, raising kids, building careers, and too busy to notice how far apart they have drifted. Either way, Prescott and the towns around it are where many of my clients live. The work is the same: a clear plan, a coach who will not take sides, and real attention on the “We.”

In their words

What clients say.

“Thank you so much for your coaching and guidance. We’re doing well, and our relationship is much deeper and stronger because of our sessions with you… Tim, you made a huge difference in our lives. Words don’t come close to expressing our love and gratitude. And you know how good we do at communicating - LOL!!!”

“Tim, you are the only one that got me to open up about myself. Thank you for that… it has helped to this day to be a better Husband, Father and Brother. You are in the right career… To help others!”
BBen G.
Husband, Father
“I met Tim during the most difficult time of my life, and his guidance and mentorship helped me to develop the skills I needed to survive and grow… Tim is exceptionally gifted working with people. I would encourage any man, at any age, and at any stage of life to reach out to Tim and see what he can do for you.”

What we work on

The things couples actually bring to me

The same fight, again

The topic changes. The pattern underneath does not. We find the pattern.

Feeling like roommates

The logistics run fine. The connection has gone quiet. We bring it back on purpose.

Rebuilding trust

After an affair or a long string of broken promises, trust gets rebuilt one kept word at a time.

Intimacy that has faded

Emotional and physical closeness, talked about honestly and without blame.

Communication that lands

Saying the hard thing so your partner can hear it, and hearing it when it is said to you.

Big transitions

Retirement, an empty nest, a move to a new town. Seasons that change how a couple spends its days.

Why online works

Same coaching. None of the logistics.

I moved my practice online on purpose, before the pandemic made it normal. Couples are often surprised by how personal it feels. You are in your own space, I can see and hear both of you clearly, and we can meet after the kids are asleep.

For Prescott couples that means no trip down to Phoenix, no hunting for a specialist close to home, and no canceling because of a snowstorm or a monsoon afternoon.

  • Meet from home, on a secure video call
  • No commute, no waiting room, no childcare to arrange
  • Works when one of you travels for work
  • Both of you are heard. Nobody gets ganged up on.

How it starts

Three steps, and you always know the next one.

Who you'll work with

I’m Tim Shetter.

Growth Strategist, Relationship Coach, and Marriage Counselor with more than 18 years of experience helping individuals and couples.

My training is in Marriage and Family Therapy, and my focus has always been the marriage itself. In my work there are three clients in the room: each of you, and the “We.” I will not make one of you the villain. We look at what is happening between you and build from there.

Remember the reasons you chose each other in the first place. Those reasons are not gone. A strong marriage draws on the connection that brought you together, and is built from there one brick at a time.

Questions

Marriage counseling in Prescott: common questions

Do you offer in-person marriage counseling in Prescott?

No. Every session is online by secure video. Many of my clients live in Prescott and Prescott Valley and meet with me from home. You get focused marriage coaching without driving to Phoenix or settling for whoever happens to be closest.

Is online marriage coaching a good fit if we are not very tech-savvy?

Yes. If you can join a video call with family, you can do this. You need a laptop or tablet with a camera and a quiet room where you can both sit together. I will walk you through the first connection, and after that it simply feels like a conversation.

Do you work with couples in Prescott Valley, Chino Valley or the Verde Valley?

Yes. Because everything is online, I work with couples across Yavapai County, including Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Dewey-Humboldt, Cottonwood, Camp Verde and Sedona.

We have been married for decades. Is it too late for coaching?

No. Long marriages have deep roots, and they also have deep grooves. Retirement, an empty nest or a health scare often brings old patterns to the surface. Couples who have been together thirty or forty years can still learn to talk, listen and enjoy each other in new ways.

Is this marriage counseling or marriage coaching?

It is marriage coaching. My training is in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I bring that background to the work, but what I offer is coaching focused on the two of you and your marriage. It is not a substitute for therapy for an individual mental health condition.

How do we get started, and what does it cost?

Every couple starts with a Marriage Review. You both complete an assessment, we meet for one session, and you leave with a clear plan for what to work on first. You can see the details and book on the Marriage Review page.
